Pakistani Diet Plan for Weight Loss: A 7-Day Desi Meal Plan

A Pakistani weight loss diet keeps familiar foods (roti, daal, sabzi, chicken salan, dahi and chai) but controls portions, cooking oil and sugar, adds protein to every meal and finishes dinner early. Most adults lose 0.5–1 kg a week on a plan like the 7-day example below, adjusted to their size and activity.

The 5 rules behind a desi weight loss plan

  1. Measure the oil. One tablespoon of oil is about 120 kcal. Most home salans use 3–4 times what's needed.
  2. Protein at every meal. Eggs, daal, chana, chicken, fish and dahi keep you full and protect muscle.
  3. One roti, not two, made from chakki atta, with half the plate as sabzi or salad.
  4. Drink water, not calories. Cut sugar in chai gradually and drop juices and cold drinks.
  5. Eat dinner early. Finishing 2–3 hours before bed helps sleep and appetite (see meal timing).

7-day Pakistani meal plan (about 1,400–1,600 kcal)

This is a general example for a moderately active adult woman. Men and very active people usually need more. Ask for a personalised plan if you have diabetes, PCOS, thyroid or kidney disease.

Make it work for the whole family

Cook one salan for everyone, using measured oil. Serve yourself first with the hand-portion guide, and add a salad bowl to the table. Children and active family members can simply take more roti or rice.

Frequently asked questions

How many rotis should I eat to lose weight?

Most women losing weight do well with 1 small chakki-atta roti per main meal, and many men with 1–2, paired with protein and vegetables. Your exact amount depends on your size and activity.

Is rice or roti better for weight loss?

Both can fit. Half a cup of cooked rice and one small roti have similar calories. What matters more is the portion and what you eat with it.
